We have the best house and property in our cute little Hallmark town. (at least in my humble opinion)
Let me share what God did for us…
Its still hard for me to comprehend that we live in this adorable home on top of the hill that I always admired every time we would come to visit.
After praying and discerning that God was moving us away from the city for now, the adorable home on top of the hill next to my mom-in-law’s house came on the market. I was surprised as I knew a young family had bought it a short 6 years prior and since nobody in this cute lil hallmark town ever moves, figured this would be their forever home.
We originally were not planning on buying a home the first year but decided to tour the home virtually anyway (with the help of family members). It turned out to be adorable on the inside.
The more I thought about the home, the more I sensed God wanted us to put an offer on it. (My husband was a little more hesitant) But…what are the chances the home I always adored from my mom-in-law’s home down below would come on the market at the exact time we were moving to the area? It just did not seem like a coincidence….
So…we sent in an offer.
We waited all weekend. The more we waited, the more confident I felt that this home was ours. I mean, God even orchestrated my mom-in-law running into the couple at a restaurant that very weekend and she was able to tell them her kids were putting an offer on the house….God was setting it all up for us…
Then the news came….we were runners up…but we did NOT get the house!
Well, this was weird…I was just sure this was from God!
I called a Godly mentor of mine and told her about the house and the situation and she even said “honey, I feel it in my heart. That’s your house! Just wait and see what God does. It ain’t over till its over.”
I know that my sound cocky but we all (as Christians) have the Spirit of God inside of us and the Bible says we know His voice and a stranger we do not follow.
So we move across the country and into my mom-in-law’s basement. It was hard to look up and see the beautiful home and just have this strong sense inside me that it was our house….yet it wasn’t.
I prayed that the home and property would be owned and used for God’s glory according to His will.
My amazing mentor continued to encourage me. She would say “that’s your house and God’s gonna use this testimony to encourage your family.”
3 months later, we are outside moving some of my sister-in-law’s things out of the garage when the owner was driving down the hill and notices us outside. We still had not met the couple that bought the home. She stops to ask if we were moving and we said no and explained what we were doing.
She said “oh, cuz I was gonna say, you should buy that house” and points to the house up the hill…the one they just moved into.
I whipped my head around and practically ran to her vehicle. I asked “are you selling???” She said “yeah, it was a panic buy for us and its just not what we were looking for.”
OK, WOW!
My husband explained that we put an offer on the house and we were the runners up….and she said “ahhhh, this would’ve been perfect for your family.”
She then said she would send her husband over to talk with us.
WOW!!! Just WOW GOD!!!
I’m trying not to make this so long but I think you will appreciate certain details. They are so worth sharing as it points to God’s Greatness.
My hubby and I did chat with her husband a few days later and he told us to make him an offer on the house but never told us what he was expecting. We knew their original offer blew everyone else’s out of the water and was an extremely high offer.
It was a crazy market.
So back to prayer we went.
My husband and I both prayed seperately about what number we were to offer and we both got the same number in our hearts. (and that hasn’t happened before)
I wrestled with the number because it was more than we originally offered but still much less then his over-priced offer.
So, while not using realtors (his desire) we texted him our offer. He came back almost immediately saying he was hoping we would’ve offered $10,000-$15,000 more.
Aaaaahhhh…..
Do we cave and give him what he wants? Its still not what he paid. But….that wasn’t the number the Lord told us to make.
So on the day we told him we would respond…I was feeling so much pressure about what to do. My husband wanted to cave and give him his desire. That wasn’t sitting well with me.
It was a Sunday, and we were in the middle of service at my brother’s home church and my daughter who stayed down in the basement because she wasn’t feeling well… texts me during service.
She said “Mom, I wasn’t even thinking about the house but as I was looking out the window, God told me to tell you to be bold as lions and stand strong on your offer.” She didn’t even know many details about the offer at this point.
Okay…the Lord was showing us what to do.
So that afternoon, we sent him our response. We explained that we know we have a solid offer because of what the price the home was going for just a few months previously and that we are saving him $15,000-$20,000 in realtor fees. We asked if he would re-consider our offer?
Immediatly, he responds with “No, I am sorry we cannot come together on this.”
My heart sank.
It felt like my insides were bursting with the knowledge that this home was supposed to be ours!
I was processing all of this as we were chatting about it with our family. It was about 30 minutes later and I decided to go to the bathroom. I needed time alone. This man was being stubborn. I just knew it!
About that time, my family starts calling out for me to come quickly.
So I head back out to the porch and they showed me another text. It read…..
“I’m sorry, I did not consult my wife. We accept your offer!”
HALELUJAH!!!!!
God is So faithful!!!
It was so amazing to witness us following by faith what God had put in our heart and to see God work on our behalf.
I wanted to share this testimony to God’s Goodness and faithfulness as an encouragement to you. He loves His children and He desires us to walk by faith.
He has special things for all of us and as we walk this precious life out with our eyes set on Him, He reveals His goodness.
Here are some pictures of our beautiful historic home.
Please feel free to share any comments or stories you may have of God’s Goodness to you!
We can all use the encouragement.
Blessings,
